SHOWTIMES: Wednesday, Dec 16th - PM. Sunday, Dec 20th - PM. Join the producers of beloved art series EXHIBITION ON SCREEN in celebrating four of the greatest composers (Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Haydn) for the exclusive re-release of the award-winning In Search Of series, with a worldwide special event cinema screening to mark each of their respective birthdays.   S hould anyone ever think of sitting down and totting up all the instrumental concertos ever composed, the piano would surely head the table, followed by the violin and then, perhaps, the cello. Those three instruments don’t always take the spotlight, however. A quick look online reveals that nearly every instrument of the orchestra has had at least one concerto written for it, as composers.   The 'animal taming' idea in the 4th is nice, but the violin concerto has more beautiful melodic material and is more moving. The piano transcription of the violin concerto is a waste of space. Beethoven only did this for the money and didn't adapt the violin writing for piano. It's the sort of piece one listens to once only, out of curiosity.
